The rift between the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the DP William Ruto continues to widen. The ODM leader, who earlier today met ODM MCAs for the ongoing discussion on the BBI argued that rubbished Ruto’s Wheelbarrow narrative in a statement meant to convince the youth that the hustler and wheelbarrow talk is nothing to go by. According to Odinga, the wheelbarrow agenda is of no value to the youth as it only asks them to survive and not live. The sentiments reinforce Odinga’s yesterday speech at a Kisii funeral ceremony that nearly turned into a battle field after the Dagoretti MP Simba Arati was fiercely attacked by his counterpart Silvanus Osoro, the MP for south Mugirango.
During the Yesterday meeting, Raila faulted DP Ruto for failing to accomplish the free laptops UhuRuto promised to issue to primary children during the last election campaigns. In a bid to persuade the MCAs to support the BBI, Odinga urged young people to understand that the DP Ruto’s wheelbarrow and hustler appeals are nonessential.
“Asking the youth to forget about work and instead push WHEELBARROWS or rid boda boda for the rest of their lives is asking them to SURVIVE not LIVE. This is the CONVERSATION they want us not to have but one that we MUST have,” read Odinga’s Tweet.
Similar arguments have been made by President Uhuru. For instance, speaking at Sagana where he was meeting over 4,000 leaders from Mt. Kenya region, the head of state accused DP William Ruto of impatience; asking him to wait on the line. Yesterday, the president was quoted blaming his deputy for making illogical appeals to youth.
“Then you say you want to help [youth] by giving them wheelbarrows, who told you that youth need wheelbarrows? What they need are jobs; they want independence,” Uhuru said.
